Dolby Concept Vehicle

Dolby Labs developed a custom audio system to promote their in-car entertainment technologies. The BMW X5 (right) is used to demonstrate Dolby technologies to aftermarket OEMs.

Rane's RPM 88 Programmable Multiprocessor fulfilled a number of objectives for Dolby's car:
  1. It allows precise control of system tuning.
  2. The 8-in / 8-out device is ideally suited for 7.1-channel architectures.
  3. Customizable presets allow instant changes.
  4. Device stages provide bass management, equalization, time alignment, and trim controls, allowing decoders to be matched.
  5. Simple modification and recall of settings supports detailed analysis of parameters and their impact on performance.

"We found Rane's RPM 88 to be an essential component of our automotive system. It is highly reliable, and the ability to export configurations is helping us develop our next generation of demo vehicles. These vehicles will also have an RPM 88 at the heart of their systems."

Martin Lindsay, Dolby Labs
